Thank-you

First of all, I'd love to tell that I appreciate every single comment you made on the last post very much. I felt your kind hearts and it was overwhelming. Thank you for saying me that I'm not boring, it was really really kind. I was feeling like a child who had a fall down on the ground, looked at the mother, and heard her saying "it's OK, darling" to making sure it's OK. The words from those who you trust can easily blow away your uncertainty.

That said with my sincere thoughts, I am a bit sad about what I wrote. I have to say that I was not willing to mention in the last post that I dislike to receive people's opinion. I didn't want to give a special focus to the fact that I was hurt by the comment. I didn't write it for seeking a consolation either. I wanted to tell you why I start and continue sewing my stuff and how I evaluate what I am currently making for myself. And why I blog as well. I am happy about the situation between me and sewing although the prominence of it is very subtle to others (sorry I say this kind of things again but I say it here for making the story clear to understand). And I wanted to share my feeling with you, those who would like to read my writing, because I thought some of you might be understanding my story. I wanted to show off my idea that I'm terribly OK with my trashy boring handmade because I am believing in what I am doing to be good, after one and big consideration.
I should understand that I have failed in writing to make the post enough clear about it.

That said and that said, I think you have read me as I wished too. I understand why you left so much kind comments to encourage me to discount the incident, it's because, it is very understandable that getting unkind comments from anonymous would hurt. Actually it effectively hurts almost everybody who receive such comments, greatly or slightly, and it does especially affect those who never imagine to make efforts to leave unkind comments to other internet users. Because you are not the people who dare to try leaving whatever unkind comments, you kindly urge to make me feel better about it. I certainly received your kind soul that is absolutely 100% shared with me. Thank you very much, dear.

I rushed to write this for showing my appreciation and thoughts. Please excuse me if there are so many strange expressions and mistakes in my writing. I hope you discount them. I hope you extract my thankful thoughts from it too.

Happy sewing!

XOXOXOXO
yoshimi

  1. I think we all wanted to make sure you knew how much we all admired your sewing skill and aesthetic style.  I'm sure a few wacky comments won't dim your elan, but we all are charmed by you and wanted to make sure that you knew that.

Your English is amazing so don't worry about any idomatic inconsistencies, your point is clear ;-)  Happy sewing to you too!  Can't wait to see what you think up next!

  2. You are a very naturally stylish person and the clothes you sew are lovely. Also your blog shows you to be a kind and gentle person . My daughter went to Japan in 2010 for 3 months -she was only 16 and she said all the Japanese people were very kind and gentle and helpful and respectful to her .I am very grateful for this because it is scary to send your young daughter away to stay in a different country with people you do not know.  SO I can understand why it is very hard for you to get such a disrespectful , unkind , horrible comment . I hope you feel better now.

  3. Yoshimi, I for one understood exactly what you were trying to say and am glad that you said it. I once received a very unkind supposedly funny comment on PR which made me stop posting reviews for a while. I should have messaged the person and explained to them my hurt and that they were not funny at all.

  5. Hi, I've been coming here for some time but never commented. Firstly, I thought your clothes were good and admire them. I am new in sewing but not in blogging. I started a travel blog to connect with many and got a lot of wonderful friends. Then I got interested in sewing and started a sewing blog to learn from inspiring people who sewn clothes, but I was not interested in expanding my boring sewing blog, just wanted to keep my fav sewist in the loop so I can visit easily. We cant make everyone happy. The reason why I dont comment much on all my fav blogs is mainly, I am here to learn and am happy with even no visit from anyone. The sewing blog was for me to rant my head off on and off since I got no one to talk to on sewing issues where I stay. So, continue to sew what you think is best, whatever makes you happy will be more than good enough :) Cheers.

  6. Rest assured, I don't think that any of us took your comments to be a pity party for yourself.  I follow you blog because I like to see what you've made & I enjoy your writing.  I expect that your other readers do too.  Carry on & continue to make clothes using beautiful patterns I wish I could read!

  7. And happy sewing to you!  I love seeing what you sew from far away San Francisco.  Its so inspiring! And I must say while I can make complicated garments, my favorites are the simple ones as I wear them the most! So your posts are very inspiring. Thank you.

  8. I never thought of your sewing as "boring". I like your taste in clothes.  It is simple, understated.  Who needs a trendy, flashy  outfit every day? You are building a wardrobe....pieces you can wear with other pieces in your closet.  I wish I could sew as finely as you do.  The little cardigans you make are so lovely.  You really do have great taste and seem to know what works on you, both in style, fit, and color.

  10. Yoshimi...

I want you to know that I find you to be a most talented sewist...as well as a kind and gentle person with a wonderful sense of humor.  I enjoy your blog immensely...and I'm always excited to see that you have posted something new.  I'm so sorry to hear that someone has hurt you.

I will agree with what so many others have said.  Your style is simple...elegant...and suits you perfectly.  I have seen many a complicated garment that does nothing to flatter it's wearer.  Stay just as you are...continue to sew the things that you love...and anyone gives you grief...tell 'em to go play in the road!

  11. Good on you for sharing your thoughts and handmade creations! I think that you are doing a wonderful thing and I hope that people follow your example and pick up the needle and thread and have a go themselves. Love your stuff. Keep it up!

Anyone who says your style is boring is blind--and rude. But even if your style were boring--which it most certainly isn't--why would anyone feel compelled to say so?  No one forces anyone to read a blog. All that person had to do was click to close--and that would be that. I suspect that the said rude poster doesn't understand that you have a very personal sense of style. Furthermore, I suspect that you might not appreciate his/hers style, but you would never be so rude to say so.

  14. Hello dear Yoshimi, Your sewing skills and your sense of style have always inspired me.  So don't let the thoughtless and unkind people of this world spoil it for you (and the rest of us).

  16. Yoshimi..you are an awesome seamstress with great style! I cannot imagine why anyone would make such a negative comment..I truly cannot. Jealousy, perhaps? Your clothing ALWAYS inspires me and I wish I had your talent. Those who post such mean spirited comments..especially anonomously..are jealous individuals..very unhappy with themselves. Your command of English is admirable..would you like to see my Japanese writing???? Ha Ha!!! Please know that you are admired and the sewing community is fortunate that you share,

  17. I love visiting your blog! I hope you can overcome the negativity and continue blogging. And I would love you to give some details on that gorgeous crochet belt in the last post, if you could!

  18. Yoshimi, I hope that you start blogging again soon. Of all the sewing blogs I read, yours is my favorite. I always check it first and am so happy when you have a new entry. Please, please ignore the thoughtless, ignorant criticism written by some nasty, unhappy soul. Please start blogging again. I love your work, sand enjoy reading your comments about your work, too.

  20. Blogging is supposed to be a way to share your unique perspective on something. It's like inviting someone into your house and showing them something, so when someone responds to your hospitality by making mean comments it is just plain anti-social and mean.

In English I think we would call your style "effortless." That doesn't mean it's easy to pull off,  but that you look gorgeous, and it doesn't even  appear that you are trying.  I only follow blogs where the author sews to satisfy their inner style sense, not something commercial or dictated by outside forces-- and I love your style.

    P.S. Writing how you felt didn't sound like a pity-party. . .

  21. Thank you Crowan, for your very kind words. Please do not worry, I'm doing fine! It's just the hot weather which has been inactivating me for some time. Talk to you soon!

  22. Thank you! Regarding the belt, I have to say that it was an ad‐lib crochet without a pattern. I started crocheting using a polyethylene ring which was going to be placed at each center of completely flat flowers. Because those rings held the shape of flowers, it was easy to show the flowers as they were on the belt. I jointed my flowers by simple crochet strings too.
