So I sewed a pair of fitted pants for the purpose of wearing this dress a bit differently. The pattern I used for them was Anita Ponti Pant from Tessuti Fabrics. While Anita pattern calls for ponti knits and alike for making the results wearable, I used a well stretching woven fabric experimentally. For them, I cut in size12 instead of using my regular size (size8) because I didn't know how much extra I needed with this fabric (or even didn't know how successful this project to be either). I tried them for fitting and then realized I could have cut in my regular size after all. Typical. I don't think all stretch woven fabrics can do the same, but my fabric worked very nicely in the end.
I am very happy with the result :))
In case you wonder how they look without the dress layer, I took some pictures of them without my dress (I think I'm going to use them only for the dress, though).

What do you say about "dresses over pants" look? I start to think it's OK and very practicable. It doesn't harm anyone, at least. Have a very happy week, everyone!
Love,

What a cute dress! I can see why you love it. I think the pants are perfect for it---I am all in favour of dresses over pants this time of year. I'm not surprised about the sizing, though. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this idea of making the tessuti pants in a stretch woven! I was just looking at their pants yesterday and may have to give it a try!
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous in both outfits.
ReplyDeleteI think dresses over pants can be very cute. Especially the way you did it, with the pants on the tighter side.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures and a very nice look! The dress is lovely! :)

Great looking trousers! You really look good with that dress over trousers looks. But what I really, really like is your sweater! I know: completely off the point! :D
ReplyDeleteBoth outfits look fantastic! I do try to do the dress over pants look sometimes, but it is mostly because I am often cold, and a dress with just tights is not warm enough for me! Hope you are well.
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to like dresses over pants again, even flared pants. I love 1970s fashion, so I guess it's no surprise. Your version is great!
ReplyDeleteI like dresses over pants. Usually fitted pants like you chose here. Very cute outfit.
ReplyDeleteI really like pants under a dress. I am not a 'dress' person, so to wear pants under one, makes it seem less 'fussy'. I hope this style comes back. I think the outfits look terrific on you!
ReplyDeleteVery cute pants! I love it with your dress, they work well together. I think dress/tunic over pants work with the right proportions. Shortish dress and skinnyish pants are a winner to my eye. I'd wear those pants more often than just with one outfit, they're cute!
ReplyDeleteYour descriptions make me smile! But I love your curtain-y dress and it looks perfect over your new trouser-y things (which are a great colour, btw)...I like the dress over trousers look myself - it's warm and a bit trendy!
ReplyDeleteThe trousers are wonderful, and I love both ways that you've styled them. I love the dress fabric, and understand why you love it so!
ReplyDeleteWonderful outfit, MmeYoshimi. Dresses over pants can look very stylish and your dress over those pants certainly looks stunning. Around my town people seem to love wearing their pajamas to the shops. What do you think of that!? Regards-Jamie
ReplyDeleteMerci beaucoup, Mme Jamie! Regarding the pajamas in the streets... I don't think I'd love myself in them in the streets. Said that, I love the people who enjoy fashion and dress up with forward-looking approaches very much, and I certainly never mind to see people who are in their pajamas outside to show their love for fashion. They even please me with doing it because I can feel their positiveness of dressing. The thing is, I don't feel pajamas are attractive as garments. I might be able to love to wear a silk dressing gown in the future, but not pajamas.... with just a personal preference ;) Thank you Jamie, it is an interesting topic to talk!!
DeleteI love that dress so much! The way you've styled it with the pants is totally fresh and modern, but you don't lose the vintage feel. Fabulous as always.
