ultrasuede bag

I got a new bag. It's a simple bucket type bag made in orange synthetic leather, which was probably Ultrasuede. I bought this synthetic fabric a week ago when I visited Nippori to accompany Carolyn and Novita for a fabric shopping. It was a very lovely day and we had a great fun with our hunting out. Because Carolyn brought her beautiful daughter with her, and my friend Miho joined us after shopping, we became a big girly fun party in the end. This fabric is my happy memory of the day!

If you are interested in how a tourist feels in the fabric town in Japan, drop by Carolyn's blog regularly as she told me that she would post her holiday story including her Nippori adventure in a short time.
For the bag, I used a self-drafted easy pattern. The bag is lined with a marimekko cotton fabric, which was a leftover of this parasol project. I have put a pocket inside for my keys and such things too. I sewed the outer and the inner(lining) bag individually, and then assembled it in the last step by stitching around the handles, having the raw edges of handles outside. The seams at the root of handles were intended to be there for making the area slightly sturdy horizontally, as I didn't want the handles to wrinkle at the area vertically.

Despite of a very quick project, I am very satisfied with the result so far. All I have to do is to check the durability of this fantastic synthetic leather for this purpose. Let's see how long it lasts! It's been looking good, working super, and totally being awesome to me.

Have a great weekend!

love,
yoshimi

  2. Fantastic! Such a great idea leaving it raw at the edges. I would have killed myself trying to turn it lol! I hope it holds up beautifully and you get many years of use out of it!

  5. It looks great - nice job! Love the color and the lining as well. I'll be interested to see how well it stands up to a lot of use.

  6. I love those shoes!! Are they comfortable? Keep us informed of how the bag holds up, I have some ultrasuede or maybe it's real suede (from the world's ugliest jacket) that I could probably recycle into something like this if it holds up well over time. :-)

  8. Yoshimi, your bag looks just gorgeous, no wonder you are so happy with it! Have you thought of publishing the pattern?
I've actually only just written the post you mentioned as promised, so this was good timing...
Thank you again for a wonderful day out!

  9. Thank you for your comment, Gail. Actually there is a pattern, it is just a dimension for it though. I promise that I'll draw a picture that you can use as a reference, before long.

  10. Hi Carolyn, thanks for the comment. I've visited your blog for the post, and it was indeed exciting to read!! I'm sure many of your readers would think about visiting Nippori by reading it. Regarding the pattern, I can draw the dimension for it, but I don't think I'm going to make a PDF pattern for the bag, because it takes ages for me to prepare PDF patterns. Thank you for your suggestion, I'll try to post its dimension soon.

  11. Hi Yoshimi,
I have not visited your blog in a long time, and it was great to see all the new thing you have sewed. I am wondering if Japan has better choices of fabrics than the US, because I can never find the fabrics similar to yours at JoAnn's. Do you purchase fabrics online, or in the stores in Japan?
    Thanks,
    Holly

  12. Hi Holly, thank you for leaving a comment. I have to say I'm sorry but I don't know whether I have better choices of fabrics in Japan than US, because I've never purchased any fabric in US. Actually I've never bought any fabric in any country other than Japan. I buy my fabrics on line as well as in the local stores, but I've never tried international purchases on fabric shopping.
