I made parasols!

090505-3

Now I'm wrapping a parasol which is made in pretty marimekko fabric. It's a birthday gift to my sister. The idea has been in my mind for some time, as she is quite sensitive to the sunshine (so am I) and would love a pretty parasol as a gift.

I did a pilot production with making mine, and then made my sister's parasol. I bought the DIY parasol kits which contained the frames and the instructions, and sewed the fabrics of my choice. I really love what I've got after struggling with my first DIY parasol experience.

I hope my sister will like it!

(you'll need to scroll down quite a lot to see them.)
They sell quite many kinds of them. I've googled in English to find something similar, but I couldn't find anything so far... I think there should be someone who sells the DIY parasol kits for crafters other than in Japan, but I must have been just unable to use the right terms in searching... Sorry for that...

  6. Hi, I find that it is technically possible to purchase the kit from the shop, without living in Japan! The shop is one of the members in a very popular internet shopping mall in Japan(Rakuten), and I find that the organizer of the mall says they help/explain when you shop internationally (mainly in English I guess). The postal fee may cost a lot, but take a look if you are interested.

    1. I would love to find these frames to give it a try in making a parasol. however, using your links I can't seem to locate them. is it possible to get a direct link or perhaps what I should call them so I can do a search on the site. I have tried parasol frame and that does not bring it up.

    2. Hello charlene, it seems the links are expired as they are too old. Would you try the word "日傘キット" to find your frame at Rakuten Grobal Market (http://global.rakuten.com/en/) please, and you'll find many shops for your need
